We took part in the 11th National & 5th International Congress of the Turkish Society for Veterinary Gynecology, where current scientific developments in veterinary gynecology and reproductive biotechnology were shared, in order to present our scientific studies and contribute to the field.
At the congress, Specialist Veterinarian Cansu Göktepe Turhan, one of our team members, presented her study titled “The First OPU–IVF Holstein Calves in Turkey Carried Out at Dost Farm: The Birth of Twin Female Calves from Different Donors.” In her presentation, she explained the successful applicability of the OPU (Ovum Pick-Up) and IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) techniques implemented under field conditions at our Dost Çiftlik. She also discussed the stages leading to the birth of Turkey’s first OPU–IVF Holstein calf and the twin female calves obtained from different donors as a result of the transferred embryos.
These results represent an important first for our country in the integration of embryo biotechnologies into field applications, showing that reproductive biotechnologies offer not only scientific achievement but also a strategic advantage in terms of genetic progress, herd quality, and operational efficiency. This study conducted by our Dost Çiftlik team was introduced into the international literature through the congress.
Fertility Research Conducted at Adana Dost Angus Farm Presented at the Congress
At the congress, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Bilen, a faculty member of Çukurova University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, also presented the results of her research titled “The Effect of Modifications in a 6-Day Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination Protocol on Fertility in Heifers,” conducted at our Adana Dost Angus Farm.
She shared the positive effects of protocol modifications on pregnancy rates achieved by using female-sorted semen in Holstein heifers and conventional semen in Simmental heifers. In her presentation, she emphasized that a scientific approach in the reproductive management of heifers is of critical importance for farm profitability and genetic progress.
